Street Cruising

Nice Ay

January 9 is a month of firsts for Street Cruising, so I thought I would start off the year with Street Cruising's first hot rod.  The first rod for us had to be the something special, and we found it in Daryl Bevis' 29 Ford Roadster.  This is one tough and very nicely built hot rod, as you are about to find out.

This is no ordinary 29 roadster, it is on a pinched Ford 32 chassis, made specifically to suit the 29 body.  That stunning paint on the full fibreglass body is Toxic Green from Ford and there is a dickie seat in the back.  The top is a custom Mercedes Benz fibreglass top.  The windscreen and surround are as they were when Ford brought the car out way back then.  They haven't been chopped or had any physical modifications, and although the body is fibreglass, it is an exact replica of the original body.  Another thing that impresses about the 29 is most of the work was done by Daryl himself.

Sitting under those 2 Edelbrock 600 carbs hanging out the top is a GM 6/71 blower, slightly underdriven for road use, and a 327 chev with steel crank, standard Fuellie rods and forged pistons.  The heads are standard RHS heads with Yella Terra roller rockers.  The cam is a Crane supercharger cam.  The fuel gets in through a Barry Grant pump and full Fuel Doctor system.  There is no doubting that in such a light car as a hot rod, this thing is one hell of a weapon.  The power gets to those big American racing wheels through a 3000 converter, full manual Powerglide and a Ford 9 inch diff with 3.5 gears and commodore axles.  The gases get away through dual 3 inch exhaust, all made by Daryl.

The brakes are all VR/VS commodore disks and calipers.  The wheels are American racing 5 spokes in 15 x 10 on the rear and 15 x 5s doing the steering.  The suspension is magnum axle with 4 bar on the front and a triangulated 4 bar on the back.  All suspension components are stainless steel.  The radiator and grille are both from the 32.

Daryl has had the roadster for 8 years and it has been a work in progress, but I am sure you will agree it has been worth every minute and every cent of the hard work that has gone into making a car this good.
