Street Cruising

Every Dog

Anyone who has been reading Street Cruising for a while now will know who Brad Cavanagh is.  He is our current car of the year winner with ITSWAR.  Brad is currently working on the new WARSON project car for Street Cruising which will be getting updated every couple of months, but he also has a few other very worthy cars for feature, including this very tough Quick Silver1982 VH SL/E Commodore.  You will also notice another first here for Street Cruising.  For the first time, we are bringing back one of the girls.  the beautiful Kylie was in the December edition last year, and is back by popular demand.

Now we know Brad is known for some nice show cars, but this was built to be a racer.  It is sporting a 355 C.O.M.E stroker engine with VN heads.  The pistons are Keith Blacks with Carillo rods.  The cam is a Crane CC288 solid cam and Yella Terra Street Terra   rollers.  The fuel comes in through dual Holley blue pumps, and 850 double pump Holley carby and Harrop single plane manifold.  The car is currently naturally aspirated but there is a NOS Big Shot system on the way.  The box is a Trimatic with all the good bits built by Sunstate Automatics and has a 4900 rpm Converter Shop converter.  The shifter is a B&M Composite X Magnum carbon fibre shifter.  Brad reckons it is the best thing he has ever bought.  A big plug coming from a guy like Brad.  Down the back is a 9 inch with 31 spline Moser axles with a detroit locker and 4.11 gears.  The exhaust is 4 into 1 pacemakers into a 3 inch mandrel bent system.

The suspension is 90/10 shocks up front and standard rear with King Springs holiding it up.  Brakes are standard SL/E four wheel disks.  The wheels are Weld Draglites 15 x 8 at the back and 15 x 4 up front.  Hoosier provided the cheesecutters at the front and for the shoot there were a set of Bridgestones on the rear, where the ET Drags usually sit.

The original intention of this car was to be a full on Pro Street car, and the engine out of ITSWAR was going to find its way into this car to be raced in pro street, but with the untimely demise of ITSWAR, Brads intentions have now changed.  Now he is planning on leaving it as a small block gasser running 10s in a street car.  The car is no slouch now.  It has run a solid 11.7 naturally aspirated so I am sure with a bit of Brads input and the input of a bit of the funny gas, a ten shouldnt be too much of a stretch.  It has already pushed the rollers up to 437rwhp on a dyno, so the platform is there for a quick car.

Thanks go to Morayfield Towing, Pro Paints, Crazy Paint for the awesome airbrushing.  Gotta stop for a second to mention the airbrushing.  Brad has gone with this entire Dark Knight Joker theme lately, and along with that idea, Crazy Paints has made this car into a work of art, especially the scoop pictured below.  Thanks also to Blair and Foski for their usual hard work.  Lockos Pipes also.

If you have been around the car scene over the last few years, been watching Street Cruising or just buying car magazines, you will know that anything that comes out of this mans shed is going to be special.  Why would a racer be any different.  It may not have the custom boot installs or the perfectly built interiors, but you can bet when Brad is finished with this car, it will be exactly what he wants and that is a streeter with a huge set of nuts.  Also, if you think this is the last you are going to see of Brad in Street Cruising, wait until the next couple of months where we will feature his next car, and for the first time, it wont be a Commodore, but dont be fooled, it will be a showstopper.
