A Real Classic HD
If there is one model Holden that is getting rarer and rarer, it's the HD. They are few and far between, and it is even rarer to find one looking as nice as Brad Ellison's. Guys like Brad are fairly rare too. Brad's mates are all into imports and newer cars, and Brad himself has a turbo R31 Skyline daily driver, so for a young bloke surrounded by imports to own a classic HD Holden is not going to come around much. This pure classic rolled off the factory floor at GMH in 1965, but it sure didn't come out like this.
The paint is Honda Accord white and BMW Williams blue, and the flames are Mitsubishi Magna blue. There is custom pinstriping on the bonnet.
The original engine is gone, in favour of a 202 blue motor out of a VH Commodore. It is pretty much standard for now with a Stromberg carby and a sports 2 1/4 inch exhaust running into twin 3 inch dumps. The gearbox is the way the general intended it. A classic 3 speed crashbox, and at the back, a standard 3.3 geared open centred Banjo.
The suspension is one thing Brad has changed. Lowered springs are on the front and 3 inch reset leaf springs are on the rear. The brakes are the original 4 wheel drums . The wheels are BSA G2 Series and are 18 x 7.5 all round, riding on 215/35/18 tyres.
The inside of the car has all be customised as well. There is a new dark blue carpet. The seats, doors and roof lining has all be recovered in a custom white vinyl and blue velour. The stereo is a Sony MP3 head unit with Sony 6 inch two-ways in the front and 6 x 9 three-ways in the rear.
Brad's father David got him into cars, sold him the car and has put up with a lot of his son's crap over the car. It took 3 days to get the engine going due to a stuffed oil pump. This the the first car Brad has owned and still has some pretty big plans for it in the future. I am sure there is one thing everyone can agree on, this is one nice looking, well customised classic car, which is good to see from a young bloke...........
