Street Cruising

The Irate One

James Cook was after a car that was not only legal for street use, but very tough for the race track.  He found a car he liked, and went and bought it, without the permission of his missus, which is a brave act for a start.  James' theory was in is easier to get forgiveness, than to get permission.  Where have I heard that before????  The car was this Phantom Mica coloured, 2003 VY SS Series 2 Commodore.  Upon bringing it home, girlfriend Kira came around pretty quickly to this black beauty.

The SS is packing an LS1 5.7 litre Chev engine.  There is not alot internally, just a Comp Cam, 222-224 @ 112, and Comp valve springs, and a Mafless tune.  Getting the power to the standard 6 speed manual box is an MPC Performance clutch and lightened billet flywheel.  The diff is an LSD 3.9:1 geared standard unit.  A set of Defilippo 4 into 1 powder coated extractors flow into twin Hi-Flow cats and twin 2 1/2 inch system.  This tidy little unit has been good enough to get 354 horsepower out of it on the dyno, and a naturally aspirated 13.25 @ 108 mph on it's first and only time at the racetrack.

Promo Angels again came to the party with a top class girl to accompany the SS.  Vanessa is a girl who loves her Commodores.  She came to the photoshoot in a Commodore, with her mum in toe, after a hard afternoon playing soccer, and both Vanessa and mum, both being big time Holden girls, starting virtually drooling over the big black beast.  Again Promo Angels produced the goods, as Vanessa was very easy to work with, and a pleasure to photograph, and also a very good natured girl.  Not to mention she is a Holden girl, so that just makes her twice as hot................

Getting back to the car, the stopping is done by the standard 4 wheel disks from the General, but the stock suspension has been replaced with new shocks and lowered King Springs.  Those stunning black wheels are BMS 20 x 8 inch rins on 225/35/20 rubber.  The interior is also as it came from Holden, but why upgrade when you already have that luxurious black and red leather on board.  Ask Vanessa, she looked awefully comfortable to me...............

The stereo has had some work, with a JVC DVD/CD/TV head unit and JVC Kevlar core splits in the front, and at the business end, a U.S. Audio amplifier pumps the bass out of a custom enclosed, 10 inch JVC sub-woofer in the rear, and a set of Pioneer Kevlar 3 ways in the rear doors.

James loves his Commodores, and is a member of Brisbane Commodore Car Club.  He has had a few mishaps in the SS, such as a small lose on the Pacific Motorway on his way back from the Gold Coast.  He is also keen to go faster, saying he will not stop with the black beast until he squeezes 500 horsies at the wheels out of her.  He wants to thank the boys at Powertorque for their support, as well as his girlfriend Kira and the boys from Brisbane Commodore Club for all their advice and help too.  Step dad Phil and his dad Ron also get a mention, and they are both guilty of getting him into cars and making him a holden man.  We will have to keep an eye on James and his SS at the racetrack too, because if he is planning on 500 horsies, we are surely going to see some serious numbers out of it at the racetrack.
