31 Flavas
Rotaries - Love em or hate em, you gotta respect the power they make. Ian Roberts is an artist from the northside of Brisbane. He does everything from cartoon drawings of cars, to tattoos and he is the owner of this 12a powered 1975 Mazda RX-2. The colour is Quartz Silver and comes from Mitsubishi.
The 12a on board this tidy little machine is fairly stock, except for the rejetted Nikki carby and a set of extractors. The exhaust is a 2 1/2 inch with 2 Lukey mufflers. The gearbox is a 3 speed auto out of an RX-7 and the diff is standard. There is one thing that got my attention about this little beast, and that was the massive NOS bottle that takes up most of the boot. That was until I found out it wasn't connected........And wasn't in fact a NOS bottle at all. Ian just reckons it adds to the appeal at car shows.......
The car sits on a set of lowered King springs and a set of Scorch 18 x 8 wheels with Nankang 215/35/18 rubber. Ian has had a few problems in the past with the wheels. He was driving to the hotrod show and one of them decided it didn't like the car anymore so it departed. Luckily it did no damage and possibly even luckier, Ian managed to hang onto it.
The interior of the car has been fully customised. The factory seats have been completely retrimmed in beige vinyl with Grey max suede, with the headrests removed. The custom console is also custom and Ian designed and created it himself. The floor has been flattened and a set of Splitfire gauges has been installed in the factory position. The stereo is a Panasonic MP3 head unit and 6 x 9s on the parcel shelf, with the bass work being done by a 10 inch Kicker sub and Kicker amplifier.

Quite a bit of detail has gone into the building of the car, including lots of detail in that boot apart from that offending 'NOS' bottle. Ian would like to thank his wife Mel and his Dad, Rick for all their help with the building of the car. Ian is a member of the 7 of Clubs Rotary Club. This is Ian's first car, and anyone can see quite a bit of effort has gone into it. It hasn't had a decent crack on a dyno yet, but with a passion for all kinds of of motorsport like Ian has, I am sure there is more in store for the little RX yet.

Don't forget guys that Ian is a very talented artist with the ability to create awesome pictures of your car from just a few photos, in plain drawn prints or cartoon prints. He is also a very talented tattooist who works at a better rate than most. If you are interested in having Ian draw your car, or if you are looking at some body artwork, shoot him an email at
